Policies - Handbook

This list will help answer some of our parents' more frequently asked questions about life at J.M.A. Please don't hesitate to give us a call for more details. Your support in these policies is appreciated.

 

General Safety and Security

Disciplinary decisions are based on best information

Responsible, respectful behaviours, both physical and verbal, are expected at all times.

Suspensions or TSPC may result.

Breaks are spent indoors.  Students may leave grounds at lunch break, a privilege that is dependent on responsible behaviours. Supervision of students only while on school grounds

 

Surveillance Cameras placed in several common areas

These are a deterrent to help assure a safer, more secure school environment.

 

Attendance and Punctuality

Punctual arrival for every period is required.  Students are to arrive with all required materials.

Written excuse to homeroom teacher for an occasional absence required on the day of the return to school.

The auto-dialer system calls homes daily informing of individual class absences.

Truancy, a disciplinary issue, can also result in meetings with you as the parent to seek a solution.

The examination exemption policy limits non-school related absences, including those excused, to 6 days/ class.

 

Student Card / Lockers

Student Card is required for participation in all extra curricular activities, dances etc.

Issued when the annual student activity fee of $25 is paid.

Students are informed and sign the policy on proper use and search of lockers.

Each student must maintain ownership of his/her own locker

 

Tobacco Policy

No tobacco use allowed on or near school grounds. This includes chewing tobacco.

Offenders are subject to progressive disciplinary measures.

 

Cell Phone and personal electronic device etiquette

No cellular phones or personal listening devices on school grounds.

Camera use is discouraged for reasons of privacy.

 

Dress Code

Bare midriffs or shoulders, or revealing garments are not appropriate for school.

Length of shorts, skirts and messages on clothing must be appropriate. Undergarments are to be covered.

Headwear of any kind is not allowed, including bandanas, kerchiefs.

"Colours" or items worn that are identifiable with a particular group, chains or spiked bracelets are not part of accepted school attire. Outerwear and book bags/backpacks are kept in lockers.

 

Skateboards and wheeled footwear

These items are not to be used on or near school grounds during the school day.

 

Extra Help/Extra Time

By student request, by invitation or as directed by the teacher to complete work or to reinforce concepts

Some noon or after school time may be required.

 

Extra Curricular activities

This includes all things, school related, after the instructional day.

Students may be excluded for disciplinary reasons, or for non-completion of required work.

Students must be successful on at least 3 of 5 courses to participate on a school athletic team.
