Playground pals: daily there are 3-4 middle
school students who go to the elementary school to help the K-Gr.2 students
while they are outside on their noon hour. The playground pals are there to
make sure that every student has someone to play with. They model
appropriate interaction amongst the children, how to make a friend, how to
invite someone to join your group etc.
14 Peer Helpers will be involved in delivering lessons to the kindergarten students at the elementary school beginning this month. They will be presenting the I Care Cat program (hands are for helping, I use kind words, we listen to each other, we care about each others feelings, we are responsible for what we do and say.
Scholastic Book Fair: Scholastic Book Fair will be held from Monday April 19th until Thursday April 22nd. The fair will be open each day from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. This will be a perfect opportunity to purchase an excellent book or two and also help our school since the profits from this fair will help pay for some of our year end awards.
French Immersion Oratory: Our French Immersion Oratory Competition was held on Thursday March 25th. Congratulations to the following students who were winners in their category: Grade 5 Early Immersion - Noah Carter, Grade 6 Early Immersion - Austin Henderson, Grade 6 Late Immersion - Kristen Thomas Grade 7 Early Immersion - Kennedy Kitchen, Grade 8 Early Immersion – Emma Duke, Grade 8 Late Immersion - Brea Pluta Good luck to Austin, Kennedy, Emma and Brea who will represent our school at district competition on April 14th!
English Oratory: Twenty-two speakers took center stage, during our Middle School Oratory Competition which was held on March 31st, 2010. Although we had many excellent presenters, our judges had the difficult task of selecting one speaker to represent our school at the district level. We are proud to announce this year's Oratory representative for SMS will be Emma Duke. Emma will participate in the District Oratory Competition to be held at Riverview High School on May 3rd, 2010. We wish Emma the best of luck and know she will represent our school with poise and style. Also, congratulations to Austin Henderson who was selected as our school's alternate, and to the remaining speakers who represented their classes so well.
Montreal/Quebec City Trip: All payments must be made by the end of April. Please submit your trip payments to Mrs. Clive. Listen to the announcements for student meeting times.
Storyfest: Salisbury Middle School's Storyfest group is well underway and students have been busy sharing Greek myths and learning about the ancient Olympics. Students will be transforming themselves into athletes as they create poems and stories about their special event. We will also be using our creativity to design our very own Olympic Torch which we will carry with us on our Journey to the Story Olympics.
Frye Festival Author Visit: SMS welcomes Cary Fagan, author of Jacob Two-Two on the High Seas; Thing-Thing, on April 23rd for all grade 5 and 6 students.
